CHARLES EDWARD BUCHMAN JR.

Charles Edward Buchman JR., the son of Charles E. Buchman, SR. and Annie Fischer Buchman was born in Sibley, Iowa on January 27, 1927 and passed with his family around him at Baptist Health in Little Rock, Arkansas on February 17, 2012 at the age of 85 years.
Charles retired as a rural mail carrier but also worked at Consumers Lumber in Spirit Lake Iowa and had his own floor covering business in Spirit Lake for many years. He had been a resident of Heber Springs for the past 19 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Heber Springs. Charles enjoyed his family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed working on puzzles growing flowers and was an avid private pilot. He and his wife Betty, wife of 63 years enjoyed traveling and were Minnesota Viking and Iowa Hawkeye football and sports fans. Charles was a Navy Veteran of World War II and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion. He organized reunion’s of his comrades for their ship the LST270.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Evelyn Englethaler. He is survived by his wife Betty Lou Goodell Buchman, sons Terry Buchman and wife Lillian of Cabot, Arkansas, and Mike Buchman of Plattsmouth, Nebraska and both sons were retired from the United States Air Force, a daughter Cherie Williams of Jupiter Florida, two brothers Vern Buchman a retired General of the Army Guard of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Richard Buchman and wife Elaine of Bedford, Texas. Survivors also are his 9 grandchildren: Shane Mossman, Shawn Buchman, Travis Mossman Williams, Cherie Simpson, Shannon Greenway, Whit Buchman, Amber Williams, Ashley Clark and Heather Buchman, 8 great grandchildren besides nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Family Funeral Service, 100 West Searcy Street, Heber Springs, AR 72543, from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 20, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the First United Methodist Church, 11th and Pine Street, Heber Springs, AR with full military honors by the American Legion. Conducting services will be Rev. Tommy Toombs. Interment will be at a later date in the Silver Lake Cemetery in Lake Park, Iowa.

    The Sunday School Class was so sad to hear of his passing. He was a ray of sunshine. Sunday morning I played “Little Brown Church in the Wildwood” in his memory. God and family be with you during this time. Our class will welcome you back when you are ready. Love, Maggie Jean and Bob Douglas
